When we’re not diving, we do our best to our hold regular social events as a club, such as the visits/tours, the annual club meal (usually in early January) – where we carry out prize giving – or just getting together to drink or bite to eat after a dive. We welcome ideas and input from club members for organising socials.
A weekly shore dive and BBQ features in the social calendar during the lighter summer months, usually taking place at either Silver Steps, Castle Beach, Swanpool or Maenporth, in Falmouth, or at Lamorna Cove. The evening starts around 6/6.30pm with a shore dive, followed by a BBQ and good chat. It’s a great social to come along to with your family and to get to meet other club members.
One event which features heavily in the annual calendar is the Kernow Dive Fest, a diving festival – yes, you read it correctly, a festival weekend all about diving! It’s a collaboration between a number of clubs across Cornwall and Devon whereby we get together for a weekend, usually second weekend of June, and dive. It’s not just about the diving though, we stay at a nearby campsite for the weekend, meeting there on the Friday evening. We dive both Saturday and Sunday from club RIBs going to pre-marked sites from Penzance. On Saturday evening we have a BBQ followed by fundraising raffles and auctions. It’s a great event to bring the family along to, especially at a mere £25 per diver.
